Joseph Edelman founded New York City-based hedge fund, Perceptive Advisors, and currently serves as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. He founded Perceptive, which specializes in biotechnology stocks, in 1999 with the goal of supporting progress in the life sciences industry by identifying opportunities and directing financial resources toward the most promising technologies in modern healthcare. Joe graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After initially pursuing a graduate-level degree in Psychopharmacology, he pivoted to earn a Master of Business Administration at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Combining his training in psychology with his experience in investing and portfolio management, Joe has built an investment team of MDs and PhDs who are dedicated to identifying trends, technologies and underappreciated assets in the life sciences industry to drive returns for investors and help improve lives through science. Beyond his professional success, Joe is deeply committed to causes to improve the lives of people and communities. He serves on the Board of Directors at the New York Genome Center and Athira Pharma.
