Biography

Susan Y. Chon, a 1991 Brown graduate with an independent concentration in children’s literature, is Professor and Deputy Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She earned her M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine before completing her internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at Stanford University Hospital. Dr. Chon specializes in the treatment of skin cancers, melanoma, and cutaneous toxicities associated with cancer therapies. In addition to her clinical practice, she is a dedicated medical educator and mentor to medical students and dermatology residents. She serves as Director of the Skin Cancer Screening and Prevention Program and founded both the volunteer physician program at the Brookwood Community, a residential and vocational community for adults with disabilities, and the HOMES Free Dermatology Clinic, which provides dermatologic care to people experiencing homelessness. As a dedicated Brown alumna, Dr. Chon has served as president of the Brown Club of Houston and as a member of Brown University’s Women’s Leadership Council. She currently serves on the Board of Governors of Brown’s Division of Biology and Medicine and on the Brown Club of Houston Board, while continuing to mentor Brown students through the Women’s Launch Pad program, helping cultivate the next generation of Brown leaders.
